Sensitivity and Discovery Potential

Sensitivity

Application of the optimization and final cuts results in the following median point spread and optimal search bin radii:

The decrease in median point spread near the horizon is due in part to sharply tightening the paraboloid error cut below zenith ~100 degrees. The following sensitivity is obtained:

The binned search sensitivity for 2005 is comparable to single-year sensitivity for Zeuthen 2000-2003. The unbinned search improves sensitivity by 25%-35% depending on zenith.

Discovery Potential

P = 0.9 P = 0.5

The unbinned search improves discovery potential by 30%-40%.
