Data Quality

Each matrix element (file, OM) is filled if the noise rate for that element is out of range (83Hz < NR < 8.3kHz). If the OM has been rejected, no elements for that OM are filled. Rejected files are excluded. Mean detector noise rate, by file
At any given quality level, rejected OMs and files are excluded.
Distribution of files, by number of OMs in file outside noise rate range, a rough measure of file quality. The position of the large peak yields an estimate of the typical number of bad OMs in any given file. At any given quality level, rejected OMs and files are excluded. The most offending OMs and files are removed by the cut Q < 15. Tighter cuts tend to remove blocks of files with an absent group of OMs. OMs 186 and 215 are a problem case, with poisson noise rates but rate ~50Hz. These OMs are not removed by the algorithm since the rates are poissonian, but must be removed because the optical sensitivity of these modules is obviously bad. A list of files in coincidence with IC-9 flasher runs is compiled using flasher run lists from PSU and local data. Finally, a list of files with abnormal trigger rates (with no corresponding flasher activity) is removed.

The large, correlated rate spikes at the beginning of the year are removed by the algorithm, and likely due to IceCube-9 flasher runs.
