- Presentation Type:Talk
- Presentation Work Group:Neutrino Astronomy
- Abstract:The classic signature of tau neutrinos in underwater/ice neutrino
telescopes is the double bang: two showers connected by a dim tau
lepton track. However, double bangs are only observable in a narrow
energy band of around 1-10 PeV determined by the spatial resolution and
extent of km scale detectors, although lollipops, partially contained
double bangs, may also be detected at higher energies. An alternative signature of tau, from muonic decay, should also be detectable in neutrino telescopes.
