Abstract:The design an performance of the miniHAWC water Cherenkov gamma-ray observatory will be presented. miniHAWC will have unprecedented sensitivity for a ground based particle detector array. It will be capable of observing the Crab at the 5sigma level with each transit while simultaneously observing the entire northern sky (~10-15 times the current Milagro detector sensitivity.) The construction cost of the detector is modest because miniHAWC will reuse the PMTs and electronics from Milagro.
