- Abstract:The High Energy Stereoscopic System (H.E.S.S.) is currently the most sensitive instrument for ground-based gamma-ray astrophysics in the energy range above ~100 GeV. The 4-telescope system is taking physics data at full performance since January 2004, resulting in the discovery of ~30 new TeV gamma-ray sources.
An overview of the performance of the current H.E.S.S. phase I system and its results will be presented, as well as plans for the extension of the current telescope system and a short outlook to the future.
