IceCube in SketchUp
Zoom into the heart of the IceCube neutrino telescope using SketchUp, a 3-D sketching software package. You can view the array from a distance, go in close to view a string of digital optical modules (DOMs), or glide over the surface at the South Pole to see the IceCube Lab and some of the IceTop tanks. Over 20 layers enable you to customize your view. The IceCube neutrino telescope extends from 1450 meters below the South Pole surface to 2450 meters below the surface and covers 1 square kilometer at the surface. When completed in 2011, IceCube will have a volume of 1 cubic kilometer in a billion tons of ice.
To access the array in SketchUp first download the file using the link below. Unzip the file and then open it using your SketchUp software.
Viewing the 3d model of the IceCube array requires Google SketchUp which can be downloaded for free at: http://sketchup.google.com
